~TOKYO~

Shinagawa Prince Hotel

At lunchtime on Christmas Eve, Dave and I left for Tokyo on the super-fast Shinkansen (Bullet Train) from Kyoto Station. The journey took about two and a half hours, and took us past Mt Fuji, which looked really scary because only the top was peering over clouds and it was a lot, lot bigger than I had been expecting (Dave took some good photos on the way back). We arrived at the hotel at about 3.30pm, and found that it was a very nice hotel indeed, with it's own complex including four towers, tens of restaurants, an aquarium, both regular and Imax cinemas, a Pirate theme park ride, a bowling alley, a swimming pool, amusement arcades, shops... And something which pleased me quite a bit, a Galaxy Express 999 rollercoaster (that's my favourite manga). Our room was on the 24th floor of the fancy New Tower, and we had a big floor-length window with views right across the city, stretching to Mt Fuji in the background.

The hotel also had various bars, the most notable being the posh one on the 39th floor, right at the top of the New Tower. The photos didn't come out too well in the dark (and after the lethally strong cocktails that we ordered) but it gave us a brilliant view of the other side of Tokyo.

Our hotel also had very pretty ice sculptures. We watched the artist carving them out on Christmas Eve, but by Christmas Day he had broken them all down again and there was just a puddle of water left :(

More of Tokyo coming soon :)
